Ive gone from 35mm film, to a simple Kodak digital camera, and then through a few crop sensor Nikon DX cameras.

I have the dual 3.46 6-core (12 total) processors and 32 GB of ram.

Im on Mojave right now and using Photoshop CS6, but may go the Photoshop creative cloud.

As far as pictures go, I usually take and edit individual landscape pictures, but sometimes stitch 3-4 together for panoramas.

I do not do this as a profession and will not be doing work for anyone else.

Truth be told, often times I create something I like and it just gets stored on my hard drive.

Is the old Mac Pro powerful enough to process multiple large digital files without taking all day or crashing- With the triple channel memory addressing, would I benefit from 16 GB of additional ram (8 GB x 6) for what Im doing Thanks in advance.

Honestly your workload isnt very demanding and could probably be performed on a 10 year old MacBook.

As you suggested, youll want to use a more modern graphics suite than CS6.

My recommendation is to keep everything as-is until such a time as its not good enough.

Triple channel may make a difference depending upon the kinds of processing youre doing on the photos - but its anyones guess as to whether the difference will be noticeable.

GB is a pretty good sweet spot for handling multiple large images simultaneously.

Hobbyist-wise, your money is better spent elsewhere than on RAM:) The best investment you can probably make at this point is buying a USB3 PCIe card for your machine.

Those 36MP raw files get big in a hurry, and transferring from SDCF to your machine via the 5,1s built-in USB2 jack will be extremely slow.

I currently just transfer everything through a SD card adapter plugged into the front USB port.

Your Mac Pro is more than powerful enough The only upgrade I would recommend is to get the fastest storage possible for boot editing.

Standard SSD at a minimum, NVMe via PCI slot would be better.
